Drafts and Offline Editing
Limudi saves your work while you type. It also keeps a copy on your device, so a dropped connection does not lose your writing.
How Saving Works
- Your work is saved to Limudi's servers a few moments after you type.
- A copy is also kept on the device you are using. This is the Auto-save setting ("Automatically save your work to browser storage"), which is on by default. You can find it in the account menu under Settings. Leave it on.
The bottom left of the editor shows the save status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Saving... | Your latest changes are being saved. |
| Saved! | Everything is saved. |
| Not saved | The last save did not work. Limudi keeps trying. |
An assignment you have started shows a Draft label in the sidebar list under My Assignments.
If Saving Keeps Failing
If saving fails several times in a row, a banner appears at the top of the editor:
- "Having trouble saving your work. Keep typing. We'll keep trying. If this persists, copy your text as a backup."
- After several minutes: "Unable to save for several minutes. Please copy your text to a safe place."
If you see the second message, select your text, copy it, and paste it somewhere safe (for example an email to yourself) until saving works again. Then check your internet connection.
If your saved work could not be loaded, you see "We couldn't load your saved work from the server. Your typing is kept on this device while we keep retrying."
Writing Offline
If your internet connection drops while an assignment is open, keep writing. You see:
"You are offline - Changes will sync when connection is restored"
When the connection comes back, Limudi saves your work. You may see Syncing... and then Synced. If changes are still waiting, you see a number of pending changes with a Sync Now button. Click it to save them right away.
Open the assignment while you are online. If the connection drops, keep the page open. Reloading the page or opening another assignment needs a connection.
Getting Back Text That Was Not Saved
Text typed on this device
If you typed something on this device that never reached the server (for example you lost connection and closed the page), Limudi asks when you open the assignment again. A window titled Text that wasn't saved online shows the text and when you typed it.
- Click Restore my text to put that text back in the editor.
- Click Keep saved version to keep what is on the server.
This works only on the same device and browser where you typed the text.
Earlier versions
To go back to an earlier saved version, click the clock icon (Restore Draft) in the editor toolbar. Choose a version and click Restore. This replaces what is in the editor now.
Conflicts
If the same work was changed in two places, you may see a message such as "2 conflicts detected" with a Resolve button.
- Click Resolve. The Resolve Conflicts window shows Your Version and Server Version side by side.
- Click Keep Mine to keep the version on this device, or Keep Server to keep the saved version.
- Click Close.
If You Are Signed Out
If your session ends while an assignment is open, the editor is replaced by "You are signed out". What you typed is kept on this device. Click Sign in. When you open the assignment again, Limudi offers to restore any text that was not saved.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My work is gone. What should I do? A: Open the assignment again on the same device and browser. Look for the Text that wasn't saved online window, or use Restore Draft to pick an earlier version. If that does not help, click Help at the top of the screen.
Q: Can I work on the same assignment on two devices? A: Yes, but close it on one device before you continue on the other. Working in two places at once can cause conflicts.
Q: Why does my draft show "Not saved"? A: The last save did not reach the server, usually because of your connection. Keep the page open. Limudi keeps trying. If the warning banner appears, copy your text as a backup.
Q: Can I delete a draft? A: No. Students cannot delete a draft. Erase the text in the editor if you want to start again.
