AI Grading Suggestions
On the review page, AI can suggest a grade and written feedback for a submission. You decide whether to use it. Nothing reaches the student until you return the work.
Getting a Suggestion
- Open the submission on the review page. See Grading Submissions.
- In the Grading panel, click Get AI Grading Suggestions.
- Wait while Generating AI Suggestions... shows. If it takes too long, Limudi tells you to try again.
The first time, a short note (Why This Matters) reminds you why your own reading of the work matters. You can choose not to see it again.
A rubric is optional. With a rubric, the AI scores each criterion. Without one, it suggests an overall grade.
The AI Suggestion Card
The AI Suggestion card shows:
- The suggested grade, in the assignment's grading scale.
- The suggested feedback. You can edit it in the card.
- Spelling & Grammar and Grade Distribution settings (see below).
- Previous results, if the AI graded this work before. Click Use this one to go back to an earlier result.
Then:
- Apply puts the suggestion into the grading panel. With a rubric, it fills in each criterion's score and the grade is calculated. Without one, it fills in Grade. The feedback goes into Overall Feedback, replacing what was there. You can still change anything.
- Dismiss closes the card without using it.
Applying does not return the work. The student sees the grade and feedback only after you click Return Final or Request Revision.
Adjusting the Expectations
Two settings shape the suggestion:
- Spelling & Grammar: Ignore, Minor, Moderate or Major. Ignore means spelling and grammar have no effect on the grade. Major expects polished writing.
- Grade Distribution: Encouraging (rewards effort and engagement), Standard (balanced) or Rigorous (a high bar).
Set the defaults for an assignment under AI Grading Expectations on the assignment's Grading tab. Changing them on the card asks Re-grade with new settings? and re-grades only this submission. The assignment's defaults stay the same.
The AI also takes into account the assignment's language level and any comments you already added to the work.
When Authenticity Needs a Look First
If the authenticity result for the submission needs a closer look, the card is blurred with Authenticity Concerns Detected. Click Review Authenticity to check the authenticity details, or View grade anyway. Before you can apply the grade, Limudi asks you to record your own assessment of the work's authenticity.
Re-grading Similar Essays
After you apply AI grades with the same settings several times, Limudi may offer to re-grade the rest of the assignment's essays the same way. Click Not now to skip.
When You Cannot Get a Suggestion
You see a message instead of a suggestion when:
- Your school turned off AI grading for teachers.
- Your school has used up its AI allowance for now.
- Your account has no school and no active subscription.
- The work contains content that could not be processed safely.
Ask your school administrator about the first two.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the AI decide the grade? A: No. It only suggests. You choose whether to apply it, and you can change any part.
Q: Can I turn AI grading off for one assignment? A: No. AI grading is turned on or off for the whole school by your school administrator. You simply do not click Get AI Grading Suggestions.
Q: Does the AI judge whether the student wrote the work? A: No. AI grading looks at the quality of the work. Authorship is shown separately in the authenticity panel.
