Setting Up Grading Rubrics
A rubric sets out what good work looks like. Limudi uses it for AI grading, for AI feedback to students, and for your own grading on the review page. Students do not see it unless you share it.
Where to Find the Rubric
- New assignment: on the Enhance step, open the Grading Rubric card.
- Existing assignment: open the card's ⋮ menu, choose Edit Assignment, and go to the Grading tab. Changes save automatically.
Starting a Rubric
You have three ways to start:
- Use a template. Under Start with a Template (Optional), search or filter by grade level, then click Use Template. Recommended templates show first. Click More templates to see your own templates, your school's templates and the standard ones (for example Argumentative Writing (CCSS), CEFR Writing Assessment, IB DP Literary Analysis and Module G Writing (Israel MOE)).
- Import a rubric. Click Import Rubric. Upload a file (an image, PDF or Word document, up to 10 MB) or paste the text, then click Extract Rubric. AI reads the criteria. Check the preview, edit it if needed, and click Apply to Assignment.
- Start from scratch. Click Start from Scratch and add your own criteria.
Simple or Matrix
Under Rubric Type, choose:
- Simple Rubric: criteria with weights.
- Matrix Rubric: criteria and performance bands, with a description and a score in each cell. New matrix rubrics start with four bands: Excellent, Satisfactory, Developing and Not Demonstrated. Use Add Band and Add Criterion to change the grid.
Building a Simple Rubric
- Choose the Total Scale: out of 10, 25, 50 or 100, or Custom with your own Max Score.
- Click Add Criterion. In the Add Grading Criterion dialog, pick one from Select a Criterion, or create a custom one with a name and description. You can tick Share with my school to let colleagues use it.
- Set each criterion's Weight, and add guidance in its description if you like.
- The weights should add up to the total scale. If they do not, click Redistribute to split them evenly.
You can also add a General Rubric Description.
To remove a criterion, click its trash icon (Remove Criterion). Change template starts the rubric again from the template list.
Sharing the Rubric with Students
Turn on Show rubric to students. Students then see the criteria on the assignment page. Tick Show point weights to show the weights too. Students see their rubric scores only after you return the work.
In the creator, the same choice is called Share rubric criteria with students.
Saving a Rubric as a Template
- Click Save as Template.
- Enter a Template Name, and optionally a description and category.
- Choose Only for me or Share with my school.
- Click Save Template.
Your templates appear under More templates next time.
Grading with a Rubric
On the review page, the grading panel shows Grade by Rubric. Enter a score for each criterion, or click a cell in a matrix rubric. The grade is calculated from the scores. See Grading Submissions.
Get AI Grading Suggestions can fill in the rubric scores for you. See AI Grading Suggestions.
