Creating and Managing Projects
A project groups several assignments into one multi-part piece of work with shared instructions. Each part is a normal assignment. You can make students complete the parts in order.
Open Projects in the left sidebar.
Creating a Project
- Click New Project. (With no projects yet, click Create Your First Project.)
- Optionally, use Smart Start: describe the project and click Generate Setup. AI writes a title and shared instructions, which you can edit. Or click I'd prefer to set it up manually.
- Fill in:
- Project Title (required)
- Shared Instructions
- Class
- Sequential Gating: students must complete each part in order before moving to the next one.
- Shared Links: links for the whole project. Click Add Link for each one.
- Click Save as Draft or Publish Project.
The project page opens. Next, add the parts.
You can also start a project from Create Assignment by choosing Multi-Part Project.
Adding Parts
- On the project page, click Add Part.
- Click Create New Assignment to build a new part, or pick one of the class's existing assignments under Or link an existing assignment:.
New parts are added at the end. Parts cannot be reordered, so add them in the order students should do them.
To take a part out, click the red X (Remove from project). The assignment itself is not deleted.
The Project Page
- Publish appears while the project is a draft.
- Project Parts lists each part with its type, due date and whether the assignment is published. Click a part's title to edit that assignment.
- Grade Overview: click View Grades to see a table of students, their grade on each part, and their Average. Grades not yet released show (draft).
- The More menu has Edit Project, Duplicate Project and Delete Project.
Deleting a project does not delete its assignments. They become standalone assignments.
What Students See
Students see published projects in their classes, with a progress bar. With Sequential Gating on, each part stays Locked until the student has submitted every earlier part. They do not have to wait for a grade.
Editing and Duplicating
- Edit Project (the pencil on the project card, or the More menu) lets you change the title, shared instructions, class, gating and links. Click Save.
- Duplicate Project (the copy icon on the card, or the More menu) creates a draft copy in the same class, called "(Copy)", with all its parts as draft assignments without due dates. The copy opens for editing, so you can change its class.
Active and Archived
Active shows projects in your current classes. Archived shows projects in archived classes.
