Managing Classes and Students

You manage your students through classes. Each class has its own roster and assignments. Open Classes in the left sidebar to see them. The page is titled My Classes.

The Classes Page

Each class appears as a card with its name, subject, number of students, number of active assignments, and where it came from (for example Created in Limudi or Google Classroom). Click a card to open the class.

At the top of the page:

  • Create class opens the dialog to create a class.
  • Import from Canvas or Classroom opens the Integrations page, where you can import classes from your school's learning platform. This button is hidden in some regions.
  • Add a sample class adds a practice class with sample students so you can try Limudi. It appears only while you have no sample class.

Archived classes are listed at the bottom under Archived.

Creating a Class

  1. Click Create class.
  2. The Create a Class dialog has two tabs:
    • Import from Google Classroom: pick courses from your connected Google Classroom account and import them with their students. If you have not connected yet, the tab shows a button to connect.
    • Create Manually: enter a Class Name and an optional Subject.
  3. Click Create Class (or the import button on the Google Classroom tab).

A class you create manually starts with no students. See "How Students Get Into a Class" below.

The Class Page

The class page shows:

  • The class name, with a pencil button (Rename) to change it.
  • Archive, to archive the class.
  • Shortcut buttons that open Student Work, Gradebook, Journeys and AI Chats already filtered to this class.
  • The Assignments in the class, with a Create assignment button that starts a new assignment for this class.
  • The Students section with the roster.

Classes linked to Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology or another platform also show Sync roster and the time of the last sync.

Renaming a class

Click the pencil next to the class name, type the new name, and click Save. For a class imported from another platform, the page shows the original name and a link to switch back to it.

Archiving a class

  1. Click Archive on the class page.
  2. Confirm. Students will no longer see the class or its assignments. Nothing is deleted.

An archived class is read-only. To restore it, open it from the Archived list on the Classes page and click Unarchive.

You cannot delete a class. Archiving is the way to put a class away. A sample class shows Remove sample class instead, which removes it and its sample students.

The Roster

The Students section shows:

  • The number of students, plus how many submissions are Graded and Pending.
  • A search box that matches first name, last name or email.
  • A table with the columns Student, Performance, Accommodations and Actions.
  • A switch for the AI tutor for the whole class.

Each student row has these buttons:

  • View Submissions opens a list of that student's submissions, each with a Review button.
  • Settings opens the student's settings: Language level, Accommodations, AI access and Login badge. See Student Accommodations.
  • Send login credentials appears for students who have not set up their account yet. See below.

Turning the AI tutor on or off for a class

Use the AI tutor for this class switch above the roster. It turns the AI tutor on or off for everyone in the class. To change it for one student, use Settings and the AI access tab.

How Students Get Into a Class

There is no class code. Students join a class in one of these ways:

  • Add them yourself. Click Add students above the roster on the class page. The steps are below.
  • Import from a learning platform. Import the class from Google Classroom, Canvas or Schoology, and its students come with it. Click Sync roster on the class page to pick up changes.
  • Your school administrator adds students to classes.
  • The class list you uploaded during first-time setup, if you used that option.

Adding students from a list

Add students is not shown for an archived class or a class synced from a learning platform. Those classes get their students from the platform, so use Sync roster there.

  1. Click Add students. A window opens with the title Add students to and the class name.
  2. Under Upload a file, click Choose File and pick your class list. It can be a CSV, Excel or PDF file, or a JPG or PNG image, up to 10 MB. Or paste the list into Or paste your class list.
  3. Click Parse Student List.
  4. Check the table of First Name, Last Name and Email. The email is optional. Change any entry, remove a row with its trash button, or click Add Student to add a row.
  5. Click the import button, which shows how many students are in the table, for example Import 24 Students. One import can hold up to 200 students.
  6. Limudi creates an account for each student and adds them to the class. The window shows how many students were added and an Invite Link. Copy the link and send it to your students. Each student opens it, finds their name and chooses a password. Click Done to close the window.

You can find the link again on the class page under Manage Invite Link. See Helping Students Sign In below.

Helping Students Sign In

Students whose accounts were created for them (for example by an import) need to set up their own login. You have three tools.

When some students have not claimed their accounts, a banner appears above the roster: Invite students to claim their accounts.

  1. Click Manage Invite Link.
  2. Click Generate Link, then copy the link and share it with the class.
  3. Each student opens the link, picks their name, and chooses a username and password. They are then signed in.

The link expires after 30 days. Regenerate creates a new link and stops the old one from working. The dialog also shows which students have claimed their account. Reset next to a claimed student lets them claim it again; it logs them out and resets their username and password.

The invite link only works for students who are already in the class.

Send login credentials

Click Send login credentials next to a student. You can check the student's email, then:

  • Copy Credentials creates a temporary password and copies the username and password so you can give them to the student.
  • Send via Email emails them to the student. This needs a real email address.

Each time you do this, a new temporary password is created and the old one stops working. The student is asked to change it when they sign in.

Login badge

A login badge is a QR code the student scans to sign in. Open Settings next to the student, go to the Login badge tab, and click Manage Badge. From there you can Generate Badge, Print Badge, Email Badge, Regenerate Badge or Revoke Badge.
